West Ham United source responds to new Tammy Abraham transfer update

Posted on August 19, 2024 by admin

A senior West Ham United source has labelled links with Roma striker Tammy Abraham as “nonsense”, according to Sean Whetstone.

The 6ft 2 editor reported via the West Ham Football X account (19 August) that the England international is not on the Irons’ “wanted list” ahead of the transfer deadline at the end of August.

Abraham will face tax implications if he leaves Roma before the transfer window slams shut and is believed to be on “massive” wages in the Italian capital.

Reports from within Italy had suggested that Julen Lopetegui’s side were favourites to sign the former Chelsea man this summer ahead of AC Milan and some clubs in the Middle East [Gazzetta dello Sport, 17 August, page 13].

Will Tammy Abraham exit Roma amid West Ham United transfer rumours?

The Hammers have been busy so far this summer, but it isn’t yet clear whether or not Lopetegui and Tim Steidten have finished adding to their squad ahead of the transfer deadline.

A new striker could well become a priority if one of Danny Ings or Michail Antonio departs the London Stadium, but while both players remain in East London the Irons seem to be well-stocked at that end of the field.

On paper, Abraham seems like a good fit for West Ham given his Premier League experience, but his wages will make any deal expensive to complete and that could well prove to be a stumbling block in talks.

Partner that with the fact sources at the club appear to be adamant that they are not even considering a move for the England international at this stage and it seems unlikely the England international will be playing in claret and blue anytime soon.
