Before the Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, there were concerns that the team might be bidding farewell to not just one, but two longtime stars.
Defensive end Brandon Graham has openly discussed his possible retirement after a franchise-record 15 seasons with the Eagles. Although he made it back in time for the Super Bowl following a torn triceps, his future remains uncertain as he weighs the decision to retire this offseason.
Meanwhile, All-Pro right tackle Lane Johnson had expressed before the Super Bowl that he intended to play another season, regardless of the outcome. However, after the Eagles’ victory, Johnson seems even more committed to continuing his career beyond 2025. Following the team’s championship parade, he took to Twitter to reaffirm his dedication to Philadelphia.
“Nothing but love the past 12 years & I’m looking forward to many more years to come,” Johnson wrote. “Love y’all Philly!”
Now a two-time Super Bowl champion, Johnson has built an impressive résumé, including six Pro Bowl selections, two first-team All-Pro honors, and three second-team All-Pro nods.
In 2023, he signed a restructured contract worth nearly $81 million, with $30 million guaranteed and an $18.835 million signing bonus, solidifying his status as one of the highest-paid right tackles in the league.
Before the Super Bowl, Johnson also addressed the team, expressing confidence that the Eagles were better prepared for the rematch with Kansas City and would come out victorious.
“They’re not just going to let us tee off on them, because they will get (expletive) up,” Johnson said. “And they’re gonna get (expletive) up tomorrow.”
Despite speculation that Johnson might consider retiring if the Eagles won, the veteran has made it clear—he’s not ready to walk away from the game anytime soon.
