Raiders trade pitch lands former $69 million All-Pro playmaker in Las Vegas

Posted on February 17, 2025 by admin

The Las Vegas Raiders will likely be in the market for another wide receiver this offseason, as the team traded away Davante Adams last October and lacked reliable and productive players at the position in 2024 outside of Jakobi Meyers.

The Raiders could look to address the need in free agency or the draft, but Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox believes Las Vegas is a potential trade destination for Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett.

The Las Vegas Raiders could also be interested in Lockett. New head coach Pete Carroll coached the wideout for the bulk of his NFL career, and the Raiders could use another talented pass-catcher to partner with Jakobi Meyers, Tre Tucker and Brock Bowers.

Presumably, the Raiders will be eyeing a quick turnaround with a new quarterback in 2025.

Lockett has become a premier trade candidate this offseason, as the 32-year-old is entering the final year of his contract, and Seattle would save $17 million by trading him. Additionally, the emergence of Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who is younger and has a similar playstyle to Lockett, has been a welcoming sight for the Seahawks.

The Raiders should look to trade for Lockett if he hits the market, as the veteran would step in as the No.2 receiver opposite Meyers and would be an adequate security blanket for Raiders’ quarterbacks. Lockett totaled 49 catches for 600 yards and just two touchdowns in 2024 but is just one year removed from a 2023 campaign where he hauled in 79 catches for 894 yards and five touchdowns.

The former Kansas State standout tallied four straight 1,000-yard seasons from 2019 to 2022 and has missed just three games since 2020. Lockett had a down year in 2024 but has been incredibly productive in the past, and a change of scenery could be what he needs to regain form.

Lockett’s trade value will not be super high due to his age and contract situation. The 2015 third-round pick will likely demand an extension if he’s traded, so an early Day 3 pick should be enough to bring the 2016 first-team All-Pro selection to Las Vegas.

The Raiders’ No.1 offseason priority should be upgrading an offense that was underwhelming in 2024. Trading for Tyler Lockett, a savvy veteran player who is familiar with new head coach Pete Carroll and has been an effective player for the last half-decade, would be an excellent move by general manager John Spytek.
