Last offseason, the Green Bay Packers made an aggressive move that shocked the fan base. They signed Josh Jacobs in NFL free agency and parted ways with longtime star and fan favorite running back Aaron Jones.
While many weren’t terribly happy with the move right off the bat, they have come around. In his first year with the Packers, Jacobs was an absolute beast in the backfield.
Jacobs ended up playing in all 17 games for Green Bay, carrying the football 301 times for 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns. Those numbers average out to a great 4.4 yards per carry.
He also flashed his receiving ability out of the backfield to the tune of 36 catches for 342 yards and his first career receiving touchdown.
With the offseason in full motion, Jacobs has spoken out honestly about his first year with the Packers and what it’s like playing for the historic franchise.
“It’s definitely different, the history is crazy out there, the people are so friendly ——playing in that stadium, knowing all the history——it’s definitely elite,” Jacobs said.
Green Bay has the best fan base in the entire NFL. There is no debating that fact. Jacobs has found that out first hand.
Looking ahead to the 2025 NFL season, Jacobs is wanting to win much bigger than the Packers did last year. Losing in the Wild Card round of the playoffs was not what Green Bay had in mind. He has even been vocal about recruiting other talented players to the Packers.
It’s good to hear the positive experience that Jacobs has had so far. He came to Green Bay to get away from losing and he helped the Packers win and get into the playoffs. Now, it’s time to build on top of that and make a deep run in the postseason next year, ideally to the Super Bowl.
Only time will tell, but the pieces are in place for Green Bay to be a special team. With the right offseason moves, they could put themselves over the top.
Hopefully, Jacobs will continue playing at the same level that he showed throughout the 2024 season. He was a legitimate workhorse running back for the Packers. In order to make a Super Bowl run, Green Bay will need more of the same from him in 2025.
