Game Over: Ravens Acquire 6-Time Pro Bowl Star, Making Lamar Jackson Nearly Unstoppable

Posted on February 19, 2025 by admin

The Baltimore Ravens did their best to beef up the receiving corps. in 2024 with a trade for Diontae Johnson, but the move did not pan out, as Johnson didn’t make a dent and became disgruntled, which led to him being waived.

Seeing as how the Ravens tried to add another wide receiver to help out Lamar Jackson last season, it’s not crazy to think the team could look to do so again in 2025. If so, one NFL analyst has a suggestion.

In an article listing trades that could shake up the 2025 offseason, Pro Football Focus’ Mason Cameron suggests a deal between the New York Jets and Ravens that would send wide receiver Davante Adams to Baltimore.

“The Ravens have needed more receiver help in the form of a difference-making X-receiver after finding success with Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman in recent campaigns,” Cameron wrote. “Despite being snubbed for the MVP, Lamar Jackson is producing as one of the best signal callers charted in the PFF era (since 2006). His 95.3 overall grade in 2024 is the highest-ever recorded by a quarterback – playoffs included. Getting Jackson more help is crucial to capitalizing on his prolific play, and Adams could be the key.”

Adams remains under contract with the Jets, but the overwhelming expectation is that he’s going to be playing elsewhere in 2025 after the team decided to part ways with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. However, it remains unclear if the Jets are going to release or trade him. We would expect them to at least try the latter first.

Adding Adams would give the Ravens an elite trio at receiver, as he’d be joining a group that includes a budding star in Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman, who is fresh off a breakout campaign.

Adams is set to turn 33 in December, so there is a fear of decline. However, the six-time Pro Bowler showed he had plenty left in the tank with a strong finish to the 2024 campaign.

The biggest turnoff for an Adams trade is his contract situation. The three-time All-Pro doesn’t have any guaranteed money left over the final two years of his deal, but he also carries a robust $38 million cap hit in 2025 and 2026.

The Ravens are strapped for cash this offseason, with the team having just $5.9 million in cap space to operate with before any cuts or restructures.

Before the Ravens were to pull the trigger on an Adams trade, he would have to restructure his deal, and even then it might not be tenable with Baltimore having more pressing needs to address with the limited funds they do have.

While Adams would be a fantastic addition for the Ravens’ offense, we just don’t see this kind of trade happening. We would expect a move for a cheaper option, though.
