Brian Sampson of Dairyland Express has suggested that Green Bay could consider pursuing New York Giants’ free agent wide receiver Darius Slayton.
“While he wouldn’t be a game-changer, he would provide a reliable third option behind Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed,” Sampson wrote. “More importantly, he would give Jordan Love a veteran receiver he can count on, something the Packers desperately need as they take the next step toward Super Bowl contention.”
Spotrac has revealed what they expect Slayton’s market value to be this offseason. They expect he will receive a deal worth around $15.8 million per year. Over the course of three seasons, that would equal just over $47.3 million.
During the 2024 NFL season, Slayton ended up playing in 16 games with the Giants. He racked up 39 receptions for 573 yards and two touchdowns.
Obviously, those are not numbers that would change the outlook for the Packers’ offense entirely. But, there is reason to believe that playing with an upgrade at quarterback like Love would be could help him take his performance to the next level as well.
At 28 years old, a three-year deal for Slayton could make sense. The projected $15.8 million per year would also fit within what Green Bay could afford.
Granted, this isn’t the big splash move that fans are hoping to see the Packers make, but Slayton could be a big help. It all depends on what the front office thinks of his game and potential fit within Matt LaFleur’s offense.
Expect to hear a lot of rumors about Green Bay this offseason. Slayton may not end up being a target, but he could make some sense as an option to consider.
