JUST IN: Los Angeles Rams Tough Decisions Confirm Top Candidates To Be Release

Posted on February 21, 2025 by admin

The Los Angeles Rams face difficult roster decisions this offseason, including whether to retain offensive guard.

NFL.com’s Matt Okada recently highlighted players teams could cut to create cap space, and Jackson was among those mentioned for the Rams. With quarterback Matthew Stafford carrying a $49.5 million cap hit for 2025, Jackson could be a prime candidate for release regardless of Stafford’s status.

Jackson suffered a shoulder injury in the Rams’ season-opening 26-20 overtime loss to the Detroit Lions. He played the following week before being placed on injured reserve in Week 3.

Releasing Jackson as a standard cut would leave the Rams with $11.3 million in dead money while saving just $3.3 million in cap space. However, if designated as a post-June 1 cut, the team would free up $9 million in savings, per Okada.

Jackson signed a three-year, $51 million deal with the Rams last March after spending four seasons with the Detroit Lions. A third-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, he earned a Pro Bowl nod in his second season with Detroit. Before his NFL career, Jackson played at Rutgers from 2016 to 2018 before transferring to Ohio State in 2019.

The Rams finished the 2024 season with a 10-7 record, winning the NFC West and advancing to the playoffs. They defeated the Minnesota Vikings 27-9 in the Wild Card Round before falling to the Philadelphia Eagles 28-22 in the Divisional Round.
