Daniel Jones will be a popular name for 2025 NFL Free Agency, with a less than stellar 2025 NFL Draft class for quarterbacks
With Jones’ career not necessarily going as planned, he will also be a cost-effective option for a team looking to revamp their quarterback room.
Or, in some cases, add veteran competition.

Colts Looking to Add Veteran Quarterback Help
Chris Ballard has not been quiet in regards to addressing the quarterback position. During the week of the NFL Combine, Ballard was asked about the possibility and said, “It’s gotta be the right guy to create real competition, but we wanna create real competition’… ‘I think it’s good for the team. I think it’s good for Anthony… It’ll be open. And, of course, it’s gotta be somebody that can really challenge from a production standpoint, too.”

This isn’t the team giving up completely on Anthony Richardson, yet, but they do need to consider all options for their future.
Richardson has flashed occasionally, but also is coming off a rough 2025 season in which he had just 1,814 yards and eight touchdowns while throwing 12 interceptions. Richardson struggled to read the field, relying more on his athleticism than what he was seeing, leading to the errors being fully on him, contributing to his completion percentage of just 47.7%. The potential is still there, but the Colts can’t wait forever for that to be unlocked.
For Richardson, adding competition to push him is the best option.
Colts to Sign Daniel Jones
With Jones, he provides the veteran experience on a cheap deal that Indianapolis needs.
After being selected in the 2019 NFL Draft by the New York Giants, it has turned into a rollercoaster career for Jones. It looked as though he was putting things together in 2022 when he led New York to the playoffs and threw for 3,205 yards and 15 touchdowns with just 15 interceptions.
The following season, Jones regressed, and it led to the Giants cutting him midway through the 2024 season. He would sign with the Minnesota Vikings where he had the chance to learn under Kevin O’Connell’s system and watch from the sidelines of a winning team, and learn how to fully apply that going forward.
With the athleticism that Jones had displayed when he flashed, plus decent accuracy and play making ability, he can be a capable quarterback for the right team. With the Colts, they have good receivers, and a stable run game with Jonathan Taylor to surround Jones with the necessary talent. For the Colts to not entirely ruin Richardson’s confidence, signing Jones as the competition is the necessary
