The Cooper Kupp saga has already proven to be one of the more interesting situations to pop up in the NFL this offseason. On Feb. 3, Kupp announced that the team had informed him of their plans to trade him “immediately.”
Now, nearly a month since that announcement, Kupp has yet to be moved — but that could change over the next few weeks. NFL analyst Ian Rapoport discussed Kupp’s situation at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, where he noted that if Los Angeles is unable to trade the eight-year NFL veteran, they may opt to cut him instead.
“For sure, there’s going to be a market, there’s going to be interest in the veteran play-making receiver,” Rapoport said. “Really, the question though is is there enough interest do to a trade where a team will take on his full salary? If not, it certainly seems a possibility for the Rams would be cutting Cooper Kupp and then moving on.”
Kupp, who is currently under contract for Los Angeles through 2026, is set to incur a cap hit of $29,780,000 this coming season. In 2023, he tallied 67 catches for 710 yards and six touchdowns through 12 games.
While the 2021 NFL Offensive Player of the Year is set to turn 32 years old in June, he is still expected to garner plenty of interest from contending teams this offseason. Whether his move comes via a trade or him being cut, Kupp’s status will be worth keeping an eye on in the coming
