Mets’ Francisco Álvarez Faces Extended 6-Month Recovery After Injury Setback

New York Mets catcher Francisco Álvarez’s recovery from a fractured left hamate bone is progressing as expected, with his return to the lineup anticipated within the initial 6-8 week timeframe. Álvarez sustained the injury during live batting practice on March 8 and underwent successful surgery on March 10.

Álvarez has expressed optimism about his rehabilitation, aiming to return as swiftly as possible. He acknowledged that the recovery timeline could vary, stating, “It’s on me. If my body takes more time than normal, maybe eight weeks. If I feel comfortable and good, I can move quicker.”

In his absence, the Mets have relied on backup catchers to fill the void. Luis Torrens has assumed the starting catcher role, with internal options such as Jakson Reetz, Chris Williams, and Hayden Senger providing support.

Álvarez’s injury marks the second consecutive season he has faced an early-season setback involving his left hand. In April 2024, he suffered a torn thumb ligament that required surgery and sidelined him for over seven weeks.

The Mets are optimistic about Álvarez’s recovery and look forward to his return to bolster the lineup. Fans and teammates alike await his comeback, hopeful that he will resume his role as a key contributor to the team’s success in the 2025 season.
