Bad News Hits Cubs: $53 Million Ace Struck With Severe Leg Problem — Latest Injury Update Revealed

Posted on May 1, 2025 by admin

The Chicago Cubs have made a strong statement early in the 2025 MLB season, sitting at 18-12 and leading the National League Central. This marks a solid start for a team that made waves during the offseason by acquiring three-time All-Star Kyle Tucker. Tucker has already begun to show why the Cubs made such a bold move, and the offense has been firing on all cylinders. However, questions about the pitching staff linger, particularly with ace Justin Steele sidelined due to injury. Despite these concerns, the Cubs have managed to find a way to win games.

In a 9-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday, the Cubs’ pitching staff continued to impress, thanks in large part to Shōta Imanaga. The Japanese import has been a revelation so far, starting six games and posting a 3.18 ERA. In the game against the Pirates, Imanaga was dominant through five innings, allowing no runs and striking out several batters. Unfortunately, after a leadoff double in the sixth inning, Imanaga was pulled from the game with what was later described as leg cramps.

The exit of Imanaga raised concerns among fans and coaching staff, but Cubs manager Craig Counsell was quick to calm any fears. He explained that Imanaga had experienced cramping in both quadriceps but reassured the media that there were no lingering issues. The left-hander’s early exit did not deter the Cubs, who went on to win the game with ease, and it seems that Imanaga will not miss any significant time, which is a relief for the team.

Despite the scare, Imanaga’s performance continues to be a bright spot for the Cubs. Having been signed to a four-year, $53 million contract this offseason, Imanaga has lived up to expectations, helping stabilize the rotation. The Cubs also signed other players, like Kyle Tucker, to bolster their roster for a potential postseason run. With such a strong start, the Cubs are focused on maintaining their momentum and avoiding any injuries that could derail their push for the division title.

As the Cubs look ahead, their focus will be on staying competitive in the NL Central and addressing any weaknesses in their pitching staff. With Steele still recovering and Imanaga showing promise, the Cubs may need to bolster their rotation even further. However, with a strong start and a talented roster, including Tucker and other key contributors, the Cubs are setting themselves up for a successful season.
