BREAKING NEWS: The #CBJ signs Dmitri Voronkov; Avoid Arbitration. Check it out below

Posted on July 6, 2025 by admin

COLUMBUS — The Columbus Blue Jackets have struck a critical deal just in time. In a move that could have ripple effects across their 2025-26 roster strategy, the club has signed forward Dmitri Voronkov to a new contract, successfully avoiding salary arbitration and securing one of their most promising young talents.

Voronkov, the 23-year-old Russian forward who made a strong impact during his rookie NHL season, has inked a multi-year deal with the Jackets. While full financial terms are still trickling out, league insiders suggest the contract reflects Columbus’ long-term faith in Voronkov’s physical, hard-nosed game and blossoming offensive potential.

This agreement avoids what could have been a tense arbitration hearing and sends a message throughout the league — Columbus is determined to retain and develop its young core. Voronkov’s gritty style, versatility, and ability to play both center and wing have made him a favorite with head coach Pascal Vincent and the Blue Jackets’ front office. After a season where he netted double-digit goals and brought a punishing presence to the forecheck, it became clear that Voronkov wasn’t just another depth piece. He’s a cornerstone in the making.

General Manager Don Waddell, who took over hockey operations earlier this summer, has been adamant about restructuring the team’s competitive foundation. Re-signing Voronkov was considered one of the top priorities on his summer checklist, and this signing signals a strong start to Waddell’s tenure.

“Dmitri is exactly the type of player we want wearing our sweater,” Waddell said in a team release. “He brings energy, size, and a commitment to both ends of the ice. This deal reflects our excitement about his future here in Columbus.”

The Russian forward was originally drafted by the Blue Jackets in the fourth round of the 2019 NHL Draft. After a few developmental years with Ak Bars Kazan in the KHL, he made the leap to North America and didn’t disappoint. His blend of toughness, tenacity, and offensive instincts made him an instant fan favorite in Columbus.

This move also gives the Blue Jackets some much-needed roster clarity heading into training camp. With a young group that includes Kent Johnson, Cole Sillinger, Adam Fantilli, and now a locked-in Voronkov, Columbus continues to stockpile talent in their bid to climb back into playoff relevance.

While there’s still more work to be done this offseason, Blue Jackets fans can celebrate today — Dmitri Voronkov is here to stay. And the rebuild, or rather the resurgence, continues to take shape in Ohio’s capital.
