Los Angeles Rams reveals asking price in Matthew Stafford trade after NFL salary-cap

Posted on February 20, 2025 by admin

Matthew Stafford’s future with the Los Angeles Rams remains uncertain, but it would take a significant offer for the team to consider trading him this offseason.

The 37-year-old quarterback has no guaranteed money left on his contract and is set to earn $23 million in 2025. While the Rams reportedly remain committed to Stafford, he will likely seek either a pay raise or stronger guarantees before next season.

According to Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports, head coach Sean McVay and the front office want to keep Stafford for at least another year. However, that hasn’t stopped teams from inquiring about his availability. Schultz reports that if the Rams were to entertain a trade, they would likely demand a first-round pick in return.

Should Rams Ask Themselves Uneasy Matthew Stafford Question?

Cutting Stafford is not a realistic option, as he carries a $50 million cap hit if released. Additionally, despite not posting Pro Bowl numbers, Stafford was solid in 2024, completing 65.8% of his passes for 3,762 yards and 20 touchdowns, while leading the Rams to the playoffs. Given his steady production, it’s no surprise that QB-needy teams are showing interest, and some may be willing to meet the Rams’ asking price.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles is reportedly looking to trade wide receiver Cooper Kupp, a move that Stafford’s wife recently hinted the quarterback isn’t happy about.

With Stafford making it clear that retirement is not in his plans, his situation will remain one of the most compelling offseason storylines until the Rams and their veteran QB find a resolution that works for both sides.
