Eagles Lock Down a Super Bowl Hero: Howie Roseman Secures Another Key Player with Lucrative Deal

Posted on March 18, 2025 by admin

The Philadelphia Eagles can’t lock down every single one of their Super Bowl champs but they’re doing a great job of keeping some of their key stars around for as long as possible.

After extending Saquon Barkley and making him the highest-paid running back in the NFL earlier this month, the Eagles are also extending right tackle Lane Johnson‘s contract, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“Another Eagles’ payday: Five-time All-Pro OT Lane Johnson has reworked his contract to add $8 million dollars over the next two years, and an additional $30 million in guarantees, per his agent Ken Sarnoff from 1 of 1 Agency, ” Schefter wrote on X. “The soon-to-be 35-year-old Johnson now will earn $48 million over the next two years, including $40 million guaranteed.”

The move comes not too long after Johnson made it clear that he was not retiring not matter the outcome of Super Bowl LIX.

“No, I’m definitely not retiring after this game, win or lose,” Johnson said. “Definitely playing next year. That’s really how you take it, I guess, when you get up there in age, you take it one year at a time. Physically, I feel a lot better than I have in the past couple years. Feel really good. For being this late in the year, it’s usually not like that. I’m thankful, we’ve got a good team here to help us out with with all that.”

Johnson, 34, only proved this past season that he has plenty of juice left in the tank after picking up his sixth overall Pro Bowl nod. Now he has just one more to earn in order to catch up to Jason Kelce and Jason Peters for the most Pro Bowls by an offensive lineman in Eagles franchise history.

Johnson sticking around through 2027 is not only great news for the Eagles’ unstoppable run game featuring Saquon Barkley, but also Jalen Hurts’ passing game. His blocking skills remained incredible in both areas this past season as he led the position in pass-blocking (83.1) and run-blocking (92.2), per PFF.
