Another big announcement for the Philadelphia Eagles regarding $57 million Super Bowl-winning TE.

Posted on March 21, 2025 by admin

Another big announcement for the Philadelphia Eagles. The Philadelphia Eagles have no urgent need to rush a trade for Super Bowl-winning tight end Dallas Goedert. However, for teams interested in acquiring him, time is of the essence. Any team trading for the veteran tight end would want to integrate him into their system as soon as possible, allowing him to build chemistry with a new quarterback and adapt to a new offensive scheme.

One team that could be motivated to act quickly is the Los Angeles Chargers. Lacking a true playmaking tight end, the Chargers are eager to bolster their offensive weapons around quarterback Justin Herbert, who has posted a 16-14 record since signing a five-year, $262.5 million extension in July 2023.

“The Chargers have done a good job of improving their offensive line and bringing back a familiar face in Mike Williams,” Locked on Chargers podcast co-host David Droegemeir said on March 20. “But you know what would make it even better? Getting a legitimate, pass-catching tight end like Dallas Goedert, who just so happens to be available.”

What Goedert Could Bring to the Chargers

While the ease of acquiring Goedert is debatable, his potential impact on the Chargers’ offense is undeniable. With the Eagles seeking trade compensation and the Chargers looking for reliable targets for Herbert, this is a deal both sides should seriously consider.

Goedert, who turned 30 in January, is entering the final year of his four-year, $57 million contract signed in 2021. He is set to earn $15.5 million in 2025—an amount that could be a sticking point for the cap-conscious Chargers.

“There are league sources who believe the Eagles are hoping for at least a fourth-round pick for Goedert, even if it comes in a future draft like 2026 or 2027,” NFL insider Josina Anderson reported on March 9. “However, some teams would need a salary adjustment to keep discussions going.” Another big announcement for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Chargers Must Decide If Goedert Is Worth the Investment

In a competitive AFC West, where the Chargers must contend with rising teams like the Denver Broncos and the powerhouse Kansas City Chiefs, securing a talent like Goedert could be a valuable move. While parting with a future fourth-round pick might be painful, it could be worth it for one of the league’s best tight ends when healthy.

The primary obstacle remains his salary. One possible solution would be restructuring his contract, extending him for an additional year, and spreading his salary over two seasons to mitigate the cap hit. However, if Goedert insists on earning his full $15.5 million in 2025, the deal could fall apart.

Philadelphia has already indicated its plans to move on, signing free agent tight end Harrison Bryant to a one-year, $2 million deal on March 13. Additionally, the Eagles have a promising young tight end in Grant Calcaterra waiting in the wings.
