In a stunning and symbolic move that bridges the past with the future, the Milwaukee Bucks have officially announced that NBA Hall of Famer and franchise icon Oscar Robertson will return to the organization as its Chief Basketball Officer beginning with the 2025–26 season.
The announcement was made Friday morning by Bucks CEO Peter Feigin, flanked by team ownership and members of Robertson’s family, in what is already being hailed as one of the most significant off-court moments in franchise history.
“Oscar Robertson isn’t just a Bucks legend—he’s an NBA legend,” said Feigin. “Bringing him back into the fold in an executive capacity reflects our commitment to honoring the legacy of those who built this organization while pushing the game forward.”
Robertson, now 87, was visibly emotional as he took the stage at Fiserv Forum during the press conference.
“This city and this team have meant the world to me,” Robertson said. “I’ve watched the Bucks grow into a global brand, and now I’m ready to contribute in a new way—to mentor, to guide, and to help shape the next chapter of Milwaukee basketball.”

Known as “The Big O,” Robertson spent the final four seasons of his illustrious career with the Bucks, helping lead the team—alongside Kareem Abdul-Jabbar—to its first NBA Championship in 1971. He remains widely regarded as one of the most complete players in NBA history and a pioneer for athletes’ rights.
In his new role, Robertson will work closely with General Manager Jon Horst, Head Coach Doc Rivers, and the player development staff. His focus will center on player mentorship, organizational culture, and community engagement—a move designed to solidify the Bucks’ identity both on and off the court.

While Robertson has kept a relatively low profile in recent years, his return marks a powerful statement about the Bucks’ dedication to legacy, leadership, and excellence.
