The Patriots’ Next Big WR Target: Non-Higgins Player Set to Land $25 Million Deal

In a perfect world, the New England Patriots would sign a star-wide receiver for a relatively low price.

Unfortunately, that isn’t very likely unless they find a way to get Chris Godwin on a cheap deal.

 

Godwin is coming off an ankle injury that he suffered during the middle of the campaign, an injury that ended his season.

 

Still only 28 years old, Godwin would’ve been in a great position to get paid handsomely.

 

He posted more than 1,000 yards in four of his last five seasons, but this ankle injury could have some around the league questioning if he’s truly healthy.

There’s a scenario where he could take a short-term deal to prove he’s healthy and hit free agency again in 2026, which wouldn’t be the worst scenario for the Patriots.

 

Despite the injury, PFN still predicted he’d land a $20 to $25 million deal for two to four years, something New England should be cautious with.

 

“He will be 29 years old when the 2025 season starts and entered last year on the back of three straight 1,000-yard seasons. All the signs were there for Godwin to press for a $25+ million-per-year contract, but the injury knocks at least 10% off that in our projections,” PFN wrote.
